Amazon is reportedly going to shut down its Amazon Restaurants delivery service in the United States by the end of this month. The service was already closed in London last year so it won't be surprising to see the company make a similar decision in its home country. Amazon Restaurants, the company's own Uber Eats rival, will, therefore, cease to exist.

The Amazon Restaurants service was first launched in 2015 and in Seattle to begin with. The company later expanded it to more than 20 cities across the country in addition to London. It allowed Prime members to have food delivered to their doorstep using the dedicated website or the Prime Now app.

Amazon shut down the program in London last November and will now be doing the same in the United States. "As of June 24th, we will discontinue the Amazon Restaurants business in the US," a spokesperson for the company confirmed to GeekWire.

The company added that many of the small number of employees that will be affected by this closure have already found new roles at the company. Others have been provided "personalized support" to find roles either within or outside the company. Daily Dish, a workplace lunch delivery service that was launched in 2016, is also being shut down by Amazon on June 14th.
